ARS Membership Application Form

The ARS is an educational organization that supports the horticultural science of roses.  It undertakes cooperative research programs on rose problems at universities and experimental stations and also tests and evaluates rose-related products.  As the International Registration Authority for Roses, the ARS records rose registrations and maintains the most comprehensive database of roses of historical and botanical importance in the world.  This vital information is published periodically in a reference manual entitled  Modern Roses.  The latest edition, Modern Roses XI, contains information on over 24,000 rose varieties.  Membership in the ARS supports these important activities.

ARS membership also brings you 6 simi-monthly issues of American Rose magazine, 46 pages of colorful pictures, feature articles, advertisements, and information on all aspects of rose growing.  In December you receive the American Rose Annual, a 132-page soft cover book containing full-length feature articles with scientific information on roses and rose culture, plus articles of general interest to rose lovers.  This Annual has been published since 1916 and back issues are collector items, challenging some members to collect them all.

Sherando Roses
A small specialized nursery dealing in own root roses both old and modern varieties. Our criteria are that our plants should be healthy, hardy, and able to survive an organic growing method. We also grow clematis which make fine companions for our roses.  Our plants are, for the most part, propagated and grown in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville.
